Monumento de Navarin.π¨π΅
Monumento de Navarin. Located in the center of the former Champagne front which extended from Reims to Argonne, the monument commemorates the battles from September 1914 to October 1918.It was erected in 1924 to honor the deaths of the Armies of Champagne at the initiative of General Gouraud, commanding the IVth Army.Inside, the bones of 10,000 soldiers, most of them anonymous, rest in a burial crypt.By climbing a few steps we reach the foot of the base from where we discover a vast panorama of the former Champagne front. The terrain still bears the marks of combat: trenches, craters, trenches... At the top, a sculpture represents 3 patrolmen in the guise of General Gouraud, Lieutenant Quentin Roosevelt, son of the President, killed in 1918 in the Tardenois and the sculptor's own brother who fell at Chemin des Dames.
